The SCGIA Certified Nursery Professional test will be offer on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Roebuck, SC and on Friday, February 2, 2018 in Columbia, SC. To register for either test please contact the SCGIA office at firstname.lastname@example.org or (803) 743-4284.
The Certified Nursery Professional program stared in 1985. Over 460 industry professionals have passed the test. Nursery owners, nursery employees, garden center employees, landscape contractors and their employees have all participated in the program.
The test is given each year at the SCGIA annual conference. It is usually given at least one other time during the year.
Currently we offer the 3rd Edition of the CNP Study manual. The manual can be ordered on the SCGIA website or contact the SCGIA office. Purchasing the manual is not a requirement to take the test.
The manual has 14 chapters on a variety of topics related to the industry. A CD of plant photos and descriptions is also included. The master list includes over 400 photos covering groundcovers, shrubs, grasses, palms, perennials, shrubs, small trees, large trees, and more.
Testing is 2-part. The written portion is made up of 131 true/false and multiple-choice questions. The Plant Identification portion is matching the botanical names of about 130 plants to the list of names i.e., plants are lined up with a number assigned to each pot. You must then write the correct number next to the correct plant name on the list.
Each portion of the test must be passed with at least 70% to become a SCGIACertified Nursery Professional.
